National Museum of Costa Rica
The National Museum saw the light by the end of the XIX century, encouraged by the liberal project of "order and progress" that reorganized national culture by means of changes in education and the development of institutions with cultural and scientific purposes, such as, precisely, the National Museum, currently located in the former Bellavista military headquarters, scene of many battles. In 1949, the army was abolished and the museum was established. Inside the museum there is a butterfly garden, an exhibit hall and a permanent national history exhibit that features the development of Costa Rica from the pre-Columbian times.
